Negligencia infantil, Disponibilidad emocional y empatía

Abstract

El presente estudio pretende explorar algunas variables implicadas en la negligencia infantil. En concreto, el objetivo principal era registrar la disponibilidad emocional en madres con comportamiento negligente cuando interactúan con sus hijos en un contexto de juego y compararlas con un grupo de madres control. Un segundo objetivo era conocer la influencia del maltrato sufrido en la infancia de las madres y el papel de la empatía en la mayor o menor disponibilidad emocional. Participaron 90 madres y sus hijos/as, 50 del grupo control y 40 del grupo negligente, cuyos hijos/as no superaban la edad de siete años. A todas ellas se las grabó jugando con sus hijos y del análisis de estos vídeos se calculó la disponibilidad emocional. De acuerdo con la investigación previa, los resultados mostraron que a nivel general, las madres con comportamiento negligente presentan menor disponibilidad emocional con sus hijos/as, y mayor maltrato en la infancia. También se encontraron diferencias en algunas dimensiones de la empatía, de tal forma que podría constituir una variable mediadora entre ser madre con comportamiento negligente y tener menor disponibilidad emocional. Otras variables como la toma de perspectiva, la fantasía o angustia personal no parecen tener una gran influencia en este perfil de madre con comportamiento negligente.

Specifically, the main objective was to record the emotional availability of mothers with neglectful behaviour when interacting with their children in a play context and to compare them with a group of control mothers. A second objective was to find out the influence of maltreatment suffered in the mothers' childhood and the role of empathy in the greater or lesser emotional availability. Ninety mothers and their children participated, 50 from the control group and 40 from the neglectful group, whose children were under the age of seven. All of them were videotaped playing with their children and from the analysis of these videos the emotional availability was calculated. In line with previous research, the results showed that in general, mothers with neglectful behaviour showed less emotional availability with their children and more maltreatment in childhood. Differences were also found in some dimensions of empathy, in such a way that it could constitute a mediating variable between being a mother with neglectful behaviour and having less emotional availability. Other variables such as perspective taking, fantasy or personal distress do not seem to have a great influence on this profile of mothers with neglectful behaviour.
