AB The anide begins by posing the old question whether Bias must bequalified as a judge or rather as an arbiter. Then, the context of thelegend of the Seven Wise Men is briefly alluded to, and Bias' role in thepolitical life of Priene is stated with the aid of a text from Plutarch anda couple of inscri ptions. Lastly, the author discusses the attitude ofHeraclitus towards Bias and the controversy between the ideals of activevs. contemplative life, in order to ascertain the image of Bias as atraditional Sage.
