RT info:eu-repo/semantics/article T1 The relationship between metacognitive awareness and reading in English as a foreing language A1 Lahuerta Martínez, Ana Cristina K1 concienciación K1 comprensión lectora K1 inglés como lengua extranjera AB This study investigates the relationship between Spanish university students’ metacognitive conceptualizations about reading in English and their reading in that language. One group of 66 native speakers of Spanish studying the second year of Teacher Training at the University of Oviedo participated in the experiment. A questionnaire was developed to obtain relevant information about their perceived reading ability in English as a foreign language and about their metacognitive conceptualizations or awareness judgments about silent readingstrategies in that language. We find a significant relationship between reading ability awareness and reading comprehension performance. Moreover, the more subjects tend to agree that strategies are effective for reading, the better their reading performance. PB Universidad de La Laguna.
