In particular, the Suzuki reaction whose purpose is the palladium-catalyzedcross-coupling of boronic acids or derivatives thereof, with alkyl or aryl halides orpseudohalides, has achieved great relevance in research worldwide, especially in thepharmaceutical and chemical industries. The objective of this work is to carry out an updated review of the Suzuki reaction,as well as to deepen its mechanism and scope, and study its usefulness in drugsynthesis. The fact that the Suzuki reaction is so efficient and selective is thanks to thepalladium catalysts. In addition, it should be noted as relevant fact that thesterochemistry present in the coupling alkyl or aryl groups is preserved and that itadmits the presence of various functional groups, which indicates the great versatility ofthe reaction. The application of this reaction has been studied in depth in the synthesis of drugssuch as antihypertensive drugs, anticancer drugs, antibiotics, among others.
