T1 Breaking from Tradition: Experimental Poems by Four Contemporary Asian American Women Poets

AB This paper examines the themes and technical strategies in the experimentalpoems by three 20th-Century Asian American women poets—Cathy Song, Trinh T. Minh-ha, and Kimiko Hahn— through closereading. While challenging Bloom’s theory of “poetic influence” andAnglo-American feminist theories for constructing an alternative traditionof women writers, my analysis considers the importance of thesubject positionalities of gender, race, and ethnicity in shaping the poeticsof Asian American women poets.
