Halliwick y Bobath: Propuesta para el futuro en la parálisis cerebral Infantil

Abstract

Objetivos: Valorar la eficacia de haber introducido la hidroterapia como complemento al tratamiento que realiza el niño con PCI. Paciente y métodos: Se ha realizado un caso clínico sobre un paciente del Centro de Rehabilitación y Estimulación Valle de la Orotava, diagnosticado con parálisis cerebral infantil espástico-distónica, tratado desde 2013 con el Método Bobath y el Método Halliwick basados principalmente en los mismos conceptos de tratamiento, pero en distintos medios. Resultados y conclusiones: Tras el seguimiento del historial clínico y la evolución del niño se observan cambios positivos, tanto en el manejo de los terapeutas como en el de sus padres. Podemos deducir que esto se deba, por un lado, a la reducción de la espasticidad que ha facilitado el manejo del niño, y por otro lado, a haber experimentado con movimientos en el agua, cuyos efectos son alternativos a los de la terapia convencional, y proporcionan al niño una serie de resultados positivos en un marco lúdico. Por lo tanto, se ha logrado que el niño tenga una mejor adherencia al tratamiento, aumentando así su esperanza y calidad de vida, gracias a la atención recibida por parte de los terapeutas, haciendo que el tratamiento en piscina combinado con la terapia convencional haya sido eficaz para este caso concreto.

Objectives: To assess the effectiveness of introducing hydrotherapy as an adjunct to the treatment of children with PCI. Patient and Methods: This project has been elaborated basing on a clinical case about a patient at Centro de Rehabilitación y Estimulación Valle de la Orotava, treated according to the Bobath and the Halliwick Methods, based mainly on the same treatment concepts, but in different application areas. Results and conclusions: After following up the clinical history and the evolution of the patient, positive changes can be observed, both in the management of the therapists and the parents. We can deduce that this is due, firstly, to the reduction of the spasticity, that has facilitated the handling of the child, and secondly, to the experience of movements in the water, which results cannot be achieved only with conventional therapy. Water provides the child positive effects within a playful activity. Therefore, with this therapy, the child reaches a better adherence to treatment, this way increasing their life expectancy and improving their quality of life, thanks to the care received by the therapists, making the pool treatment combined with the conventional therapy are effective for this particular case.
