Abstract

The aim of this article is to revise Medieval English Studies in the Spanish academia in the last twenty years, i.e. from the foundation of the CEMyR up till now. Such revision will start by describing the state of the discipline at the end of the 80’s and the beginning of the 90’s, as those years saw the foundation and subsequent rise of several scientific societies that nurtured the evolution of the discipline in Spain. After this description, the present situation of Medieval English Studies in Spain will be discussed taking into account the role of these studies in the current process of change conducted in our country imposed by the standards of the European Higher Education Area. Some reflections and thoughts about the future of Medieval English Studies in Spain will be offered as a conclusion.

El presente trabajo pretende hacer una revisión de los estudios medievales ingleses en la academia española desde la fundación del CEMyR hasta el momento presente. Para ello, se describirá la situación de la disciplina a finales de los ochenta y principios de los noventa, donde se fundaron o se reformularon diversas sociedades científicas que permitieron su evolución. Tras ello, se pasará seguidamente a revisar su estado actual en el marco del Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior en el que se encuentra inmersa la academia española en estos momentos. Se concluirá la revisión apuntando algunas reflexiones sobre el futuro de la disciplina en España
