The present paper seeks to review hiberno-latin culture through its
Literature. We take Adamnan's Vita Sancti Columbae as our principal
referent in achieving this aim. This is a text which was written towards
the end of the 7th. century and transmitted in a series of manuscripts.
We also give a brief account of this text. Its main idea is focused on the
influence that Ireland and its monks had on both medieval literature,
written in Latin on the continent, and on European culture through the
rigorious teaching of the Latin language in the school system.
