El vocabulario marítimo y las expresiones relacionadas con el mar en algunos textos del XV al XVI

Abstract

In the first part of this paper, we examine the words used in the semantic field «sea», as found in three books from the 15th century: the Universal vocabulario by Alonso de Palencia, the Diccionario latino-español and the Vocabulario español-latino both by Antonio de Nebrija. The aim of this paper is to discover which of the texts includes more words related to navegation. We also analize when a dictionary includes these terms as technical vocabulary or when they are used as words which belong to common speech. Furthermore, we study the maritime vocabulary found in some 16th century navegation, astronomy, cosmography and geography texts.

Este artículo en su primera parte analiza el léxico referente a la mar en tres repertorios publicados a finales del siglo XV: el Universal vocabulario, de Alonso de Palencia y el Diccionario latino-español y el Vocabulario español-latino, de Antonio de Nebrija. Este estudio tiene por objeto comprobar cuál es el que recoge mayor número de voces relativas a la navegación y cuándo un diccionario incluye estos términos como tecnicismos y cuándo figuran en esos repertorios como vocablos que pertenecen al caudal general de la lengua. Seguidamente se atiende al vocabulario marítimo en algunos de los numerosos tratados que en el siglo XVI se escribieron acerca de la navegación, la astronomía, la cosmografía y la geografía.
