2019Abstract
There is a direct relationship between medicine and inorganic chemistry,
currently booming due to the advance of bioinorganic chemistry. Since ancient
times this discipline has been put into practice. We will briefly review the history
of this science, focusing on some of the most relevant compounds. It will be
necessary to explain certain concepts such as virulence and pathogenicity,
mechanisms involved in the expansion of diseases; the arsenic compounds will
serve as a background to explain the evolution of the discipline already
mentioned, with special attention to the Salvartán. With regard to silver metal
compounds, we will cite some of the most demanded, highlighting the
effectiveness of silver sulfadiazine as a prophylactic and treatment of infections
caused by burns. In the case of the compounds of gold, we will highlight the
importance of its compounds is associated with an antifungal agent,
fluconazole. We will talk about the action of gallium with an iron derivative,
putting in background the role of iron in the metabolism of bacteria and
explaining schematically the effect of Desferrioxamina-gallium (DFO-Ga) as a
bactericide.
Finally, we will treat HIV, and develop a study carried out in which the activity
and specificity of dinuclear metal ligands, derived from compounds already
marketed, for the treatment and diagnosis of HIV are demonstrated. We will
also talk about the activity of polioxometalates against this virus
