Pedir: sintaxis y semántica

Abstract

Se propone una caracterización del sentido nuclear del verbo pedir en términos de la Semántica Conceptual de R. Jackendoff. Para ello se parte de descripciones previas aparecidas en estudios gramaticales y diccionarios. Se tienen en cuenta también las aportaciones provenientes de estudios de los actos verbales instativos. Por último, se tratan cuestiones relativas a la correspondencia de la estructura semántica con la sintáctica y a ciertos desajustes entre ellas, en los que intervienen mecanismos de coerción.

An attempt is made at characterizing the core meaning of the Spanish verb pedir in terms of R. Jackendoff ’s Conceptual Semantics. Previous descriptions in grammars and dictionaries as well as studies on directive speech acts are taken into account. Finally, in connection with the analysis of the correspondence between syntactic and semantic structure, certain mismatches can be observed and, for their treatment, the mechanism of coercion is invoked.
