dc.description.abstract | The Inquisition of the Catholic Monarchs was an institution that represented the ambition of power of the kings whose desire was to maintain a unified and controlled state through repression. The Inquisition in the Canary Islands wasn´t constituted in a different way from the peninsular. However, this territory had its own peculiarities such as the remoteness of the European continent, insularity, poverty and the plurality of population groups. For further understanding of the subject, we will begin studying the problem of coexistence between the three main religious confessions present in the Peninsula during the Middle Ages and the origin of the Inquisition in the fifteenth century. Then we will end up studying the particularities of the Inquisition in the Canary Islands, beginning with the Conquest of the Canary Islands and its consequences, reviewing the inquisitive activity prior to 1505, ending with the analysis of the Court of the Holy Office of the Canary Islands and its actions during the sixteenth century.
