Proyecto de intervención educativa: autocuidado en pacientes con enfermedades cardiovasculares.

Abstract

Una de las primeras causas de muerte a nivel mundial, tanto en hombres como mujeres, son las enfermedades cardiovasculares (ECV). Las enfermedades cardiovasculares afectan al corazón y a los vasos sanguíneos, y son mayormente de carácter crónico por lo que es necesario que los pacientes tengan conocimiento de los autocuidados y puedan identificar las complicaciones o agudizaciones consecuentes y sepan cómo actuar ante ellas con el objeto de reducir la morbimortalidad y tener una buena calidad de vida a pesar de la enfermedad. El objetivo de este proyecto es que los pacientes que acuden al servicio de Cardiología del Hospital General de La Palma adquieran conocimientos sobre su enfermedad con el fin de disminuir las complicaciones potenciales de la misma, sean capaces de identificar las causas y los síntomas de su enfermedad, actúen ante la agudización de la patología aumentando así la esperanza de vida, y puedan mejorar su calidad de vida mediante charlas impartidas por profesionales de Enfermería que fomenten los hábitos de vida saludables. Este es un proyecto de intervención educativa, apoyado en un estudio analítico transversal de carácter prospectivo. La muestra incluirá a todos los pacientes de diagnóstico reciente en la consulta de Cardiología del Hospital General de La Palma y aquellos pacientes hospitalizados ingresados por patologías cardiacas próximos al alta. La participación será voluntaria. Se valorarán los resultados obtenidos mediante un cuestionario, tanto previo como posterior, valorando el nivel de conocimientos. La duración del proyecto es de cuatro meses cada grupo.

Cardiovascular diseases are one of the most common death causes all around the world. This illness affects to the heart and the blood vessels. Also, cardiovascular diseases are mostly chronic so the knowledge of self-care and to learn how to identify complications, the increased severity of the illness and how to act when they appear are needed for them to be able to reduce the mobility and mortality, and to have a good life quality despite the disease. The objective of this project is for the patients who come to Hospital General de La Palma with cardiovascular diseases to acquire knowledge about their pathology with the purpose of decrease potential complications of it, for them to be able to identify causes and symptoms of their disease, and to act correctly when it gets worst in order to increase life expectancy and to improve the quality of life. That will be learn through lectures promoting healthy lifestyles given by professionals. This educational intervention is an analytical and transversal study with a prospective design. The sample will include all of the recent diagnosed patients from the Cardiology Unit of the Hospital General de La Palma and all of the soon to be discharged patients admitted by a cardiac pathology. Patientsʹ participation will be strictly voluntary. The outcome assessment will be valued by a quiz, before and after the intervention, to assess the level of knowledge and the effectiveness of the lectures. The duration of the project will be four months each group.
