dc.description.abstract | In the history of medicine, the healing processes have been explained in three general methods: according to the effects of the established medical treatment; according to the healing power of nature and as a result of the placebo effect. A definition of the placebo effect would be an effect that being pharmacological or non-pharmacological, produces an improvement on the condition to be treated on the subject, above all, contributes to the psychological benefit of the same. The placebo effect is especially pronounced in diseases where pain is a main symptom, where the brain, prior conditioning and expectations play a fundamental role in the mechanism of action of placebo. The following work constitutes a bibliographic review of the placebo effect in history, where the most important findings of authors who have spent several years of their careers on the placebo study will be covered. In addition, the application of the study in patients with pain will be reviewed as well as the ethical aspects that need to be taken into account when using a placebo. | en |
