dc.description.abstract | Studies and research on cancer metabolism currently inform us that cancer cells have three clearly defined objectives: to avoid cell death, to survive in acidic, hypoxic and low-nutrient environments, and their ability to grow. This makes them capable of modifying some metabolic pathways in order to obtain energy quickly thanks to the high uptake of glutamine and glucose, the latter through what is known as the Warburg effect. This change causes them to carry out uncontrolled cell proliferation and thus be able to expand to other nearby tissues. Notably, to prevent cell death, cancer cells inhibit apoptotic pathways, inactivate malignant cell growth factors, and bypass the immune system thanks to the acidic environment produced by metabolic reprogramming. | en |
