El escenario social como delimitador de espacios en el teatro quinientista portugués

Abstract

The scenic vigour displayed by sixteenth century Portuguese drama stems mainly from a specific set of outstanding characters that, endowed with caricaturesque traits, become a part of the social scenery. As such, they were identified, both by the dramatists and the audiences, as representative of certain groups, evolving thus into specific types. Among them, one of the most relevant figures are those of the «regateiras» or wandering female sellers. The author of this article focuses her attention on this itinerant figure and its importance in sixteenth century Portuguese society as reflected in diverse plays belonging to the Vincentine school.

En el teatro quinientista portugués la fuerza escénica viene reflejada por los personajes mismos que se convierten en parte de un decorado social que pone de relieve, con ciertos visos caricaturescos, aquellos rasgos que tanto el autor como los posibles espectadores identificaban como propios de cada grupo, haciendo de estos personajes prototipos. Entre estos personajes ocupan un puesto relevante las «regateiras» o vendedoras ambulantes. A través de varios autos de la escuela vicentina, la autora analiza esta figura y su importancia en la sociedad portuguesa del XVI.
