De una temprana prefiguración de la teoría del signo lingüístico del Curso de Lingüística General de Saussure en unos manuscritos suyos sobre las leyendas germánicas

Abstract

Este artículo da cuenta de una temprana prefiguración de la teoría del signo lingüístico de Saussure en unos manuscritos suyos relativos a las leyendas germánicas. Partiendo de la analogía que Saussure establece entre la leyenda y la lengua como sistemas semiológicos, examinamos hasta qué punto ciertas propiedades características del signo lingüístico aparecen ya manifiestas en los estudios sobre el símbolo legendario que el lingüista lleva a cabo en estos apuntes, prestando especial atención a los rasgos de dualidad, arbitrariedad, valor y linealidad del signo.

This paper accounts for an early prefiguration of Saussure’s theory of the linguistic sign in a collection of manuscripts written by the author on the question of the Germanic legends. On the basis of Saussure’s analogy between language and legend as semiological systems, we examine to what extent his theory of the sign is somehow manifested in the studies on the legendary symbol undertaken in these notes by focusing on such features of the linguistic sign as duality, arbitrariness, value and linearity.
