La descontextualización de la figura del zombi: del vudú haitiano al fenómeno de masas

Abstract

En el presente trabajo se pretende realizar un estudio sobre la figura del zombi, concretamente la transformación que sufre al entrar en contacto con Occidente en torno a principios del siglo XX. Para ello se estudiará el contexto histórico, socioeconómico, político y religioso en el que surge. Se llevará a cabo una revisión de los estudios antropológicos sobre la religión vudú, el ritual de zombificación y sobre la propia figura del zombi tanto en sus orígenes africanos como en Haití. Se examinará el contexto mediante el cual la figura del zombi haitiano llega a Estados Unidos y a Europa, las causas por las cuales se distorsiona esta figura al entrar en contacto con Occidente, así como la nueva configuración del estereotipo de zombi, sus múltiples interpretaciones y su papel como fenómeno de masas. Para analizar estos aspectos, se recurrirá a una revisión de fuentes bibliográficas, iconográficas, audiovisuales y algunas herramientas propias de las Ciencias Sociales, como son las entrevistas y las encuestas. ABSTRACT The present work aims to carry out a study on the figure of the zombie, specifically the evolution it undergoes when it comes into contact with the West around the beginning of the 20th century. For this, the historical, socioeconomic, political and religious context in which it arises will be studied. A review of anthropological studies on the voodoo religion, the zombification ritual and on the figure of the zombie itself will be carried out both in its African origins and in Haiti. The context through which the figure of the Haitian zombie reaches the United States and Europe will be examined, the reasons why this figure is distorted when coming into contact with the West, as well as the new configuration of the zombie stereotype, its multiple interpretations and its role as a mass phenomenon. To analyze these aspects, a review of bibliographic, iconographic, audiovisual sources and some tools of the Social Sciences, such as interviews and surveys, will be used.
