Aproximación a la experiencia y necesidades de las familias venezolanas migrantes en Canarias

Abstract

Debido a la difícil situación económica, social y política, Venezuela está atravesando la crisis migratoria más importante de su historia. España y específicamente Canarias, es uno de los destinos elegido por muchas familias venezolanas, debido a los vínculos familiares que tiene el país con las islas. El presente estudio pretende aproximarse a la realidad de las familias venezolanas migrantes en Canarias, explorando la percepción y valoración que hacen las figuras parentales sobre su experiencia migratoria, el impacto en el sistema familiar y su integración social. Para ello se ha empleado una metodología cualitativa a través de una entrevista grupal a ocho participantes usuarios de Cruz Roja en Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Los resultados muestran, que el proceso migratorio genera cambios en la estructura y dinámica familiar, representando retos, pero también oportunidades de desarrollo. Durante este proceso pueden surgir sentimientos de frustración, indefensión y vergüenza. Muchas veces las familias se ven enfrentadas a la separación física de los padres, transformándose en familias transnacionales. El trabajo resulta ser una variable muy relevante para los entrevistados, por las dificultades para obtener y mantener un empleo estable y para conciliar la vida laboral y familiar. En el proceso de integración a la sociedad receptora, la escuela es una importante fuente de apoyo. De igual manera las instituciones públicas, ONGS y los servicios sociales facilitan la adaptación e integración de las familias migrantes. Finalmente, las relaciones sociales y con la comunidad tienden a ser escasas, debido a limitaciones de tiempo y oportunidades, por lo que es necesario crear espacios que faciliten este contacto e interacción. En el proceso de aculturación, la crianza de los hijos y el ajuste a los parámetros culturales del país de acogida representan uno de los principales desafíos.

Due to the difficult economic, social and political situation, Venezuela is going through the most important migratory crisis in its history. Spain and specifically the Canary Islands are one of the destinations chosen by many Venezuelan families, mainly due to the family ties with the islands. The present study aims to approach the reality of Venezuelan migrant families in the Canary Islands, exploring the perception and assessment that parental figures make of their migration experience, the impact on family system and others factors related to social integration To achieve this, a qualitative methodology has been used through group interviewing to eight participants who attend the Red Cross headquarters in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The results show that the migration process generates changes in the family structure and dynamics, representing challenges, but also opportunities for development. During this process, feelings of frustration, helplessness and shame may arise. Families are often faced with physical separation between the parents, transforming themselves into transnational families. Work turns out to be a highly relevant variable for the interviewees, both due to the difficulties in obtaining and maintaining a stable job and in reconciling work and family life. In the process of integration into the host society, the school is an important source of support. In the same way, public institutions, NGOs and social services facilitate the adaptation and integration of migrant families. Finally, social and community relationships tend to be scarce, due to time and opportunity constraints, so it is necessary to create spaces that facilitate this contact and interaction. In the process of acculturation, raising children and adjusting to the cultural parameters of the host country represent one of the main challenges.
