dc.description.abstract | Air pollution is the cause of a great number of illnesses and deaths around the world. In the Canary Islands, the main source of contamination is preceded by particles in suspension through the Saharan advections, so it is considered essential to investigate more about this phenomenon that affects the archipelago so much. This study aims to investigate the particulate matter in the Canarian sky, emphasizing particles smaller than 2.5 microns (PM2.5), since they are considered the most harmful to health. To do this, we will study how the values have evolved through annual, seasonal, monthly, daily and hourly averages. Finally, the haze episode that the Canary Islands suffered in February 2020 will be highlighted, focusing the study on the values obtained from the Municipal Pool station, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and analyzing what measures the competent authorities took, since the high levels of polluting particles on those dates coincided with Carnival events.
