Desmitificando la visión de la unidad de cuidados intensivos: percepción y realidad en pacientes y ciudadanos

Abstract

En este trabajo se ha tratado de analizar, desde una mirada Bioética, las percepciones que tienen los pacientes ingresados en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos (UCI) del Complejo Hospitalario Universitario Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria (CHUNSC) sobre su estancia en dicho servicio. Además, se ha estudiado la percepción por parte de la ciudadanía sobre la UCI y un posible ingreso allí, comparando estas percepciones con la realidad que se vive día a día en este tipo de servicios. Se ha querido profundizar en ambos grupos, el conocimiento de las manifestaciones anticipadas de voluntades, si se tenían hechas, además de si se creía que podría ser positivo tenerlas registradas previo a un ingreso hospitalario. Se ha observado que la percepción de mortalidad por parte de la ciudadanía es mayor que los datos reales de supervivencia en la UCI.

We have tried to analyze from a Bioethical perspective, the perceptions of patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Complejo Hospitalario Universitario Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria (CHUNSC) about in their stay in that service. Moreover We wanted to observe the perceptions of the citizens about the ICU and a possible admission there, comparing these perceptions with the reality that is experienced every day in this type of service. The aim was to deepen in both groups the knowledge of the advance healthcare directive, if they have been made, as well as if it was believed that it could be positive to have them registered before a hospital admission. It has been observed that the perception of mortality by the public is greater than the actual data of survival in the ICU.
