dc.description.abstract | Tourism plays and has historically played a very relevant role in the Canary Islands. We can say that it is the driving force of the Canarian economy and that it has a particularly important and prominent role within it, since it is the main component of the Canarian GDP and generates a very considerable amount of jobs every year. Therefore, we can say that its growth has gone hand in hand with the overall economic growth of the last twenty years. The main goal of this project is to make a first approach to the evolution of the rural tourism sector in the Canary Islands in the last twenty years. It is a subsector that has experienced strong growth, associated with changes in tourism demand that have occurred in recent decades. Thus, it is currently growing and, as a result, we can say that it already is a feasible alternative to traditional tourism for people visiting the islands. | en |
