La Catedral de Mallorca vista por los viajeros decimonónicos. Estudio comparativo

Abstract

El presente artículo expone un análisis comparativo de las visiones expresadas sobre la Catedral de Mallorca en la literatura de viajes escrita dentro de la primera mitad del siglo XIX. A partir de la selección de siete autores de diferentes nacionalidades hemos extraído varios ítems en común, con la finalidad de valorar las semejanzas y diferencias que se pueden establecer entre ellos. Dichos ítems se encuentran vinculados al tratamiento que ofrece cada viajero de determinados elementos del templo. Mediante este estudio podremos determinar qué elementos o aspectos de la Catedral fueron los más comentados, analizando la manera en que fueron abordados por parte de cada visitante. Además, dichos libros constituyen claros antecedentes de las futuras guías turísticas.

This article presents a comparative analysis of views expressed on the Cathedral of Mallorca in travel literature written in the first half of the 19th century. Based on a selection of seven authors of different nationalities we have extracted several items in common, in order to assess the similarities and differences between them. These items are linked to the treatment offered by each traveller of certain elements of the temple. By means of this study we will be able to determine which elements or aspects of the Cathedral were the most commented, analysing the way in which they were approached by each author. In addition, these travel books constitute clear antecedents of future tourist guides.
