Abstract

Las suturas han estado en nuestra historia desde hace milenios, convirtiéndolas, dada su importancia en el ámbito de la salud, en un dispositivo indispensable en el día a día de los sanitarios de todo el mundo. Nuestro objetivo es realizar una línea cronológica, a través de una revisión bibliográfica descriptiva e histórica, acerca de cómo evolucionó este dispositivo desde nuestros antepasados. El comienzo fue en la era cavernícola, donde se dieron los primeros indicios de la manufacturación de éstas y continuó su avance a través de las Antiguas Grandes Civilizaciones. Sin embargo, debido a factores como la escasa tecnología de la época, pocos instrumentos y la intervención de instituciones religiosas, el avance de la medicina fue más lento hasta el siglo XX, donde crece de nuevo de forma constante. Nuestra búsqueda de información culmina con un análisis de las suturas actuales y, además, con aquellas que están siendo desarrolladas e investigadas en estos momentos con la última tecnología, siempre con la intención de mejorar e innovar. Se realiza una revisión de los documentos que, según nuestros criterios de búsqueda y palabras clave, nos han salido gran cantidad de artículos que nos han permitido realizar una cronología básica de la sucesión de eventos y personajes que han intervenido en la creación, modificación y perfección de estos dispositivos. Se han utilizado varias bases de datos de donde hemos sacado la mayor información posible de cientos de artículos, lo que ha resultado en el descarte y posterior selección de aquellos que nos resultaron válidos para realizar el seguimiento.

Sutures have been in our history for many years, making them, given their importance in the health field, an indispensable device in the day-to-day life of healthcare professionals around the world. Our objective is to make a chronological line, through a descriptive and historical bibliographic review, about how this device is evolved with our ancestors. The beginning was in the cave era, giving the first indications of the manufacture of them and continued its advance through the great ancient civilizations. However, due to factors such as the limited technology of the time, few instruments and the intervention of religious institutions, it caused that the advance of medicine until practically the 20th century was not something more rapid and constant. Our search for information culminates with an analysis of the current sutures and, in addition, with those that are currently being developed and investigated with the latest technology, always with the intention of improving and innovating. The beginning was in the caveman age and it continued its advance through the great ancient civilizations. However, due to factors such as the limited technology of the time, few instruments and the intervention of religious institutions, they caused that the advance of medicine until practically the 20th century was not something faster. Our search for information culminates with an analysis of the current sutures and, also, with those that are currently being developed and investigated with the latest technology, always with the intention of improving and innovating. A review of the documents is carried out that, according to our search criteria and keywords, we have obtained a large number of articles that have allowed us to make a basic chronology of the succession of events and characters that have intervened in the creation, modification and perfection of these devices. Several databases have been used from those we have obtained as much information as possible from hundreds of articles, which has resulted in the discarding and subsequent selection of those that were valid for us to carry out the followup.
