Breastfeeding is considered to be the best exclusive food for the child during
the first six months of life, providing not only cost-effective but also physiological
advantages for both the infant and the mother, as well as preventing various diseases
in both.
The aim of this review is to study the factors involved in the early abandonment
of exclusive breastfeeding before six months of life. The results reveal that both the
perception of insufficient milk and compliance with the work schedule are the main
factors that determine the abandonment of exclusive breastfeeding; the lack of
knowledge of the mechanisms of SARS - CoV - 2 contagion favors the abandonment of
this practice, in addition to the anatomical variety of the breasts; the difficulties of the
mother-child binomial and the deficient and/or erroneous information to the mothers.
