Morfología y distribución de Aphanocladia stichidiosa en las islas Canarias (Rhodophyta, Rhodomelaceae).

Abstract

El hábito y la morfología vegetativa y reproductora fueron examinados en plantas de Aphanocladia stichidiosa de las islas Canarias. Esta especie es endémica de la región templado cálida del Atlántico noroeste (mar Mediterráneo y costas atlánticas próximas desde la Península Ibérica a Canarias) y las plantas canarias concuerdan bien con las descripciones previas. Recolectada sólo en los meses de febrero, abril y mayo, el conocimiento sobre la fenología de esta especie es incompleto. Las plantas son generalmente estériles y los tetrasporangios fueron observados en febrero y mayo. Plantas gametófitas no fueron recolectadas. El pequeño tamaño del hábito de esta especie puede justificar el reducido número de citas de este taxon en Canarias.

Habit and vegetative and reproductive morphology was examined in plants of Aphanocladia stichidiosa from the Canary Islands. This species is endemic of the warm temperate northwestern Atlantic region (Mediterranean Sea and neighbouring Atlantic coast from the Iberian Peninsula to the Canary Islands) and Canarian plants are in good agreement with previous descriptions. Collected only in the months of February, April and May, the knowledge on the phenology of this taxon is incomplete. Plants are usually non-fertile and tetrasporangia were observed in February and May. Gametangial plants have not been collected. The small size of the habit of this species can justify the little number of records of this taxon in Canaries.
