The general objective of this research is to know the attitudes society has towards those who
have gone through a period of internment in prison. In addition to seeing if different
sociodemographic variables such as age, sex, political ideology, influence when it comes to
having positive or negative attitudes. Also, another objective is to analyse if there are
differences in the attitudes that are held about adult inmates compared to young delinquents.
In this study we have worked with a sample of forty-eight participants, 52.1% of them women;
to learn these behaviours, they were given a questionnaire with the Scale of Attitudes towards
Prisoners (ATP Scale), designed by Melvin and collaborators (1985). Likewise, this scale was
adapted to be able to also know the attitudes that are held about minor offenders. The
conclusions reached are that, in general, there are favourable attitudes regardless of whether
they are older or younger inmates, without the sociodemographic variables having any
influence.
