Cómo afecta el consumo de alcohol al volumen del hipocampo según la cantidad ingerida y la edad de las personas.

Abstract

El aumento del consumo de alcohol hoy en día deriva a ser uno de los principales problemas en la salud pública. Pudiendo influir a nivel físico, psicológico, económico y social en las personas. Debido al aumento del consumo de alcohol, así como otras manifestaciones como problemas en la memoria, entre otras funciones cognitivas, surge el interés de estudiar cómo influye el consumo del alcohol al volumen del hipocampo según la edad de la persona y la cantidad que consume. Los resultados de nuestro estudio nos indican que sí hay efecto en el volumen del hipocampo, pero si este conlleva un alto consumo de alcohol teniendo más de 28 años; indicándonos una reducción de dicha estructura cerebral.

The increase in alcohol consumption today is becoming one of the main public health problems. It can influence people physically, psychologically, economically and socially. Due to the increase in alcohol consumption, as well as other manifestations such as memory problems, among other cognitive functions, the interest arises to study how alcohol consumption influences the volume of the hippocampus according to the age of the person and the amount consumed. The results of our study indicate that there is an effect on the volume of the hippocampus, but if this is associated with a high consumption of alcohol over 28 years of age; indicating a reduction of this brain structure.
