Los judeoconversos en la América española

Abstract

En el siguiente trabajo se pretende realizar un estudio del desplazamiento de los judeoconversos hacia el continente americano, desde su salida de España y, posteriormente, desde Portugal, hacia las Indias tras su descubrimiento; un territorio muy amplio en extensión que será el lugar de refugio para muchos conversos que pretenden llevar su fe judía en secreto. Se tratará especialmente la situación de los conversos portugueses afincados en América, que serán especialmente importantes por el establecimiento de redes comerciales en las Indias españolas. Además, quedará plasmada la importancia de la voluntad de los judeoconversos en esos territorios de mantener su fe, buscando, de esta manera, una pervivencia de la memoria judía, siempre amenazada por la actuación de la Inquisición.

In the following piece of work a study of the displacement of the Jewish Converts towards the American continent is going to be made. It wil be made since their departure from Spain and, after that, from Portugal to the Indies afterwards their discovery; a wide territory that will be the shelter place for many Converts that were trying to take their Jewish faith secretely. It will be about the situation of the Portuguese Converts established in America, that will be specially important because of the settlement of the commercial net in the Spanish Indies. Moreover, the importance of the will that the Jewish Converts were having in order to keep their faith will be reflected, searching, this way, the survival of the Jewish memory, always feeling threatened by the Inquisition's intervention.
