This paper analyzes some phonological problems in Old English within a syllable structure frame-work. Solutions within this framework are posited for phenomena such as the -u/Ø alternation in neuter a-nouns, long-stemmed disyllable words with apparent loss of medial vowel when inflectional endings are added and compensatory lengthening in strong nouns. The syllable structure framework provides a simpler account of these phenomena.en_EN
