Performatividad y subversión de la identidad: a propósito de la obra de Judith Butler

Abstract

Vamos a tratar de comprender la concepción de la identidad en la obra de Butler, fundamentalmente a partir de El género en disputa 1. Profundizaremos para ello en su teoría de la performatividad, tratando tanto a los autores que posibilitaron su desarrollo (Austin, Derrida) como a algunos de sus críticos (especialmente Seyla Benhabib y Pierre Bourdieu). Nos preocupan especialmente las discusiones en torno a la constitución discursiva del sujeto, y el modo en que se plantea la oposición entre estar constituido por el discurso y estar determinado por él. Trataremos finalmente de comprender el lugar de la obra de Butler en el panorama general del feminismo contemporáneo, explorando algunas de las razones que impiden interpretarla como un desplazamiento teórico que permanezca en el marco de la teoría feminista.

In this article, we will try to understand the conception of identity in Butler’s work, specially on Gender Trouble. For this reason, we will focus on her theory of performativity, paying attention to both authors who made possible its development (Austin, Derrida) and some of its critics (specially, Seyla Benhabib and Pierre Bourdieu). We specially worry about discussions about the discoursive constitution of the subject, and the opposition between being constituted or being determined by language. Finally, we will try to understand the place of Butler’s on the general context for the feminist theory, exploring some of the reasons that prevent us from interpreting it as a theoretical displacement that stays in the framework of the feminist theory.
