Estética, iconografía y poder en los terreiros de Umbanda.

Abstract

El presente Trabajo de Fin de Máster centra su atención en la estética, cuestiones artísticas e iconografías de las prácticas umbanda y quimbanda en sus centros de culto, los “terreiros”. Para ello se ofrecerá un acercamiento a esta práctica afrobrasileña cuyo desarrollo encuentra su punto de partida a comienzos del siglo pasado, expandiéndose más allá del continente americano. Se valorará las diferencias entre prácticas de naturaleza similar, y se estudiará las experiencias sensoriales que encuentran los adeptos al participar de los cultos: sus símbolos, su mitología, sus influencias, así como las leyendas de sus orixás. Con ello, tendremos ocasión de comprobar el carácter y relevancia social de estas religiones de matriz africana.

The following master's thesis is focused on aesthetical features, artistic topics, and iconographies of umbada and quimbanda practices in their cult centers, also known as "terreiros". For doing that, it will be done an approach to this afro-brazilian practice which the development took place at the early beginnings of the twentieth century, expanding its influences further from the american continent from then on. It will be rated up the differences between akin practices, and studies about the sensory experiences which the adepts can feel and live when participating on the cults will be done, wich will implicate on topics such as: their symbols, myths, influences, as well as the tales about their Orixás. Therefore, it will be possible to attest the nature and social relevance of these african matrix religions.
