The characterization of women as defined by feminist criticism has credibility as its most important basis. In this sense, their description in Alice Walker's Meridian lacks authenticity. This is particularly true of the character of Meridian, whose lack of coherence hinders the natural flow of emotions and action, and therefore, affects the conception of the character as an individual entity. This may be seen throughout all the elements that conform the novel, such as the situations in which she moves or her reactions towards social pressure upon women.en_EN
