This paper tries to give an overall view of the ever present dichotomy affecting the view of women in the medieval period, with especial attention focused on XHI and XIV centuries. The clerical misoginy spread hundreds of years before by the Church Fathers is re-taken at this point in pieces of literature of outstanding importance, where women are offered a ultimate solution to avoid their ill consideration: virginity and entire devotion to holy matters. Poems in the vein of courtly literature and fabliaux show the dichotomy reflected in a more worldly vision of women.en_EN
