Topónimos, asentamientos y paisajes de la cuenca del Guadalete en época islámica: aproximación preliminar a la luz de las fuentes árabes (siglos x-xv)

Abstract

This exploratory study proposes to address issues related to toponyms, settlement patterns and the design of the landscapes of the Guadalete Basin (in the nowaday province of Cádiz) in the light of written sources in Arabic (10th-15th centuries). In the three main sections that make up this study, some characteristics of the Arab texts and their contribution to the knowledge of the toponyms of the study area are addressed in a first stage. In a second phase, the complex issue of Arabic vocabulary related to the different modes of settlement

in the macro-region is examined. At the end, in a third stage, non-exhaustive lists of topo- nyms of the Guadalete Basin are provided. These toponymic lists will take into account the

place names identified/located (or not) in the region and on the borders with the current provinces of Seville and Malaga. Finally, a glossary of the main Arabic words examined in the article is proposed.

Este estudio exploratorio se propone abordar cuestiones relacionadas con los topónimos, las modalidades de asentamiento y el diseño de los paisajes de la Cuenca del Guadalete (en la actual provincia de Cádiz) a la luz de las fuentes escritas en árabe (siglos x-xv). En los tres apartados principales que componen este estudio se abordarán primero algunas caracterís- ticas de los textos árabes y su contribución al conocimiento de los topónimos de la zona de estudio. En segundo lugar, se examinará el complejo tema del vocabulario árabe relaciona- do con los diferentes modos de poblamiento en la macrorregión. En una tercera etapa, se proporcionarán unas listas no exhaustivas de topónimos de la Cuenca del Guadalete. Estas listas toponímicas tendrán en cuenta los nombres de lugares identificados/ubicados (o no) en la región y en los límites con las actuales provincias de Sevilla y Málaga. Por último, se propone un glosario de las principales voces árabes examinadas en el artículo.
