Jóvenes homosexuales. Los estereotipos y la salud mental

Abstract

Los cambios en la etapa de la adolescencia (físicos y mentales) pueden verse afectados por los estereotipos sociales, actuando negativamente en el bienestar mental y físico, como ejemplo, a los jóvenes homosexuales. El objetivo de esta investigación se orientó a analizar el nivel de aceptación de los estereotipos homosexuales dentro del colectivo homosexual y determinar cómo puede afectar en la salud mental de los mismos. A través de un estudio cuantitativo, la recogida de datos se lleva a cabo con un instrumento basado en investigaciones previas, (n= 96), perteneciente a Andalucía. Los resultados muestran que los estereotipos siguen presentes en los jóvenes homosexuales, negativamente. Las conclusiones indican que las personas homosexuales temen a mostrarse como realmente son debido a los estereotipos sociales aceptados.

Changes in the stage of adolescence (physical and mental) can be affected by social stereo- types, acting negatively on mental and physical well-being, for example, young homosexuals.

The objective of this research was oriented to analyze the level of acceptance of homosexual stereotypes within the homosexual group and determine how it can affect their mental health. Through a quantitative study, data collection is carried out with an instrument based on previous research, (n= 96), belonging to Andalusia. The results show that stereotypes are still negatively present in young homosexuals. The conclusions indicate that homosexual people fear to show themselves as they really are due to accepted social stereotypes.
