La ocultación del campesinado canario en la formación del Caribe español colonial

2023Abstract
El objetivo de este artículo es estudiar el papel de los campesinos canarios en la formación del Caribe colonial hispano a través del análisis de su bibliografía y la documentación de toda índole, incluyendo los libros sacramentales. No se puede entender el Caribe español colonial sin la presencia de una numerosa colonia de campesinos canarios que contribuye decisivamente a la fundación de pueblos y a su colonización agrícola y ganadera. Sin embargo, una historiografía llena de prejuicios ideológicos, obsesionada por caracterizar al conjunto del Caribe como una plantación esclavista azucarera, en la que coinciden tanto marxistas dogmáticos autóctonos como algunos norteamericanos, la ha ignorado por apartarse de ese modelo simplista.
