De la agricultura a la industria en el sur de Tenerife. La génesis del Polígono Industrial de Güímar (1960-1980)

Abstract

Los primeros Polígonos Industriales constituidos en Tenerife se encuentran enmarcados en una etapa histórica con algunos hitos decisivos. De una parte, en clave estatal, tenemos a la industrialización como la fórmula elegida para modernización del País. De otra, en clave interna, estamos ante en uno de los principales periodos expansivos desde el punto de vista inmobiliario-turístico, coincidente con un periodo de recesión decisivo de la hasta entonces principal actividad económica canaria, la agricultura de exportación. En este contexto, las estrategias de los propietarios de la tierra cambian, abandonando sus tradicionales rentas agrícolas de exportación e incorporándose progresivamente a la actividad especulativa inmobiliaria, especialmente la turística, pero también la industrial, aprovechando el empuje estatal en esta materia económica. Para ejemplificar este fenómeno, en el presente trabajo nos hemos ocupado de uno de los grandes polígonos industriales constituidos en Tenerife, el Polígono Industrial de Güímar, que hemos estudiado en lo que son sus cambios de uso del suelo en el periodo 1960 – 1980, fechas donde se produce su tránsito desde un inicial uso agrícola a otro urbano o urbanizable industrial, constituyendo lo que hoy en día conocemos como polígono industrial.

The first industrial estates constituted in Tenerife are framed in a historical stage with some key milestones. On the one hand, in key state, we have industrialization as the formula chosen for modernization. Otherwise, internal key, this is one of the major expansionary periods from the point of real estate-tourism, coinciding with a period of view decisive recession of the hitherto main Canarian economic activity, export agriculture. In this context, the strategies of land owners change, abandoned their traditional export agricultural incomes and progressively joining the, especially tourism, but also industrial, real estate speculative activity taking advantage of the state push in this economic matters. To illustrate this phenomenon, in this work we have dealt with one of the largest industrial estates constituted in Tenerife, the industrial area of Güímar, we have studied what their changes in land use in the period from 1960 to 1980, dates where transit occurs from an initial agricultural to urban or industrial developable another, forming what we know today as industrial estate.
