El modelo turístico con el que cuenta Tenerife se ha quedado obsoleto, y es por ello que tanto las entidades públicas como privadas de la isla apuestan por un cambio en la oferta turística. El turismo deportivo es un segmento de mercado que puede revalorizar las infraestructuras ya existentes en los municipios turísticos, explotar los recursos naturales de forma respetuosa y crear una relación de calidad entre el turista y el residente. El crecimiento exponencial que ha experimentado el turismo deportivo tras la pandemia de la COVID-19 ha impulsado el mercado y es por ello que actualmente es una de las principales apuestas del sector a nivel internacional. Tenerife cuenta con una gran historia y tradición deportiva y números equipos isleños han alcanzado importantes logros internacionales. Además, actualmente en la isla se desarrollan numerosos eventos deportivos de primer nivel, lo que es una gran oportunidad de mercado. Teniendo en cuenta lo ya mencionado y que la isla tiene unos recursos naturales excepcionales, se puede convertir en uno de los principales destinos europeos para la práctica de turismo deportivo.

Taking into account the aforementioned and that the island has exceptional natural resources, Tenerife can become one of the main European destinations for the practice of sports tourism.
