Análisis de manuales de Higiene Doméstica (1857- 1900)

Abstract

Este trabajo se centra en el análisis de los manuales de “Higiene Doméstica” escritos por mujeresyutilizados durante la segunda mitad del siglo XIX. A través del análisis de estos textos, sebuscaentender cómo los manuales no solo funcionaban como herramientas educativas sino tambiéncomovehículos para reforzar roles de género específicos dentro del ámbito doméstico. El estudiodestacala contribución significativa de las autoras y maestras en la enseñanza de la higiene, a pesar delaslimitaciones impuestas por los roles de género de la época. Se realiza una breve comparativaconmanuales escritos por hombres para ilustrar diferencis y similitudes en los enfoques de lahigienedoméstica. Este análisis contribuye a un mejor entendimiento de la interacción entre género, cienciay educación en el contexto histórico de España.

This study explores "Domestic Hygiene" manuals authored by women and used in female educationin 19th century Spain. Through the analysis of these texts, the research aims to understandhowthemanuals functioned not only as educational tools but also as vehicles to reinforce specificgenderroles within the domestic sphere. The study highlights the significant contributions of femaleauthors and teachers in the instruction of hygiene, despite the gender role limitations of theperiod.A brief comparison with manuals written by men is made to illustrate differences and similaritiesinapproaches to domestic hygiene. This analysis contributes to a deeper understandingof theinteraction between gender, science, and education in the Spanish historical context.
