La pintura de los cuadros de ánimas en Gran Canaria. Tres ejemplos significativos: Telde, Teror y Santa Brígida

Abstract

La pintura de los cuadros de ánimas ha sido menos estudiada en Gran Canaria en compa- ración con otras islas como Tenerife o Fuerteventura. Hemos seleccionado tres obras para mostrar la importancia de las mismas: el de Telde y su representación del infierno como un enorme monstruo de ojos amarillos y dientes afilados; el de Teror por la sencillez de su simbología, siendo fácil interpretar su potente mensaje, y el de Santa Brígida con los santos de las distintas órdenes religiosas. Cada uno con sus peculiaridades muestran la variedad y calidad presentes en Gran Canaria.

The painting of soul pictures has been less studied in Gran Canaria compared to other islands such as Tenerife or Fuerteventura. We have selected three works to showcase their importance; the one from Telde and its representation of hell as a huge monster with yellow eyes and sharp teeth; the one from Teror for the simplicity of its symbolism, making it easy to interpret its powerful message, and the one from Santa Brígida featuring saints from various religious orders. Each one, with its peculiarities, showcases the variety and quality present in Gran Canaria.
