Autenticidad y datación del epistolario de Séneca y Pablo

Abstract

Las epístolas apócrifas entre Séneca y Pablo continúan planteando múltiples interrogantes, pero la hipótesis de la no autenticidad parece consolidarse debido al testimonio de San Jeró- nimo y de otros escritores cristianos que hicieron circular la correspondencia a finales del siglo IV de la era cristiana, y por el latín de las cartas, así como por el «usus scribendi» de la época. De ahí surgió el supuesto cristianismo senecano al que le abrió las puertas el mundo cristiano, y con ello obtuvo una importancia que le habían negado los escritores paganos.

The apocryphal letters between Seneca and Saint Paul continue to pose many questions. The hypothesis of nonauthenticity seems to be confirmed by the testimony of Saint Jerome and other Christian writers, who circulated the correspondence in the 4th century of the Christian era, by the Latin used in the letters, and by the «usus scribendi» of that time. From the apocryphal letters emerged the so called «Senecan Christianity» to which the Christian world opened its doors, thus obtaining for «Senecan Christianity» an importance that had been denied by pagan writers.
