Abstract

This thesis developed an aggregated and standardized database using the Anatomical-Chemical-Therapeutic Classification (ATC) system and the Defined Daily Dose (DDD), which allowed the analysis of opioid use patterns, providing a comprehensive and comparative view at the provincial, island and municipal levels, which was a novel aspect, and providing tools to assess the impact of local factors on the use of these drugs. In all geographical areas analyzed, the most commonly used therapeutic subgroups were combinations of tramadol with non-opioid analgesics (N02AJ) and major synthetic opioids such as buprenorphine and fentanyl (N02AE), in line with international clinical guidelines.
