La influencia de la humanización de un delincuente según su lenguaje emocional en la empatía y la respuesta punitiva.

Abstract

Este trabajo analiza cómo el tipo de emoción expresada por un delincuente influye en la percepción social que se tiene de él y en la severidad del castigo que se le asigna. A través de un diseño experimental 2x2, se manipuló el tipo de emoción (primaria vs. secundaria) expresada en un relato criminal para evaluar su impacto sobre la deshumanización, la empatía, la justicia retributiva y la severidad del juicio. Los resultados muestran que la expresión de emociones secundarias, consideradas exclusivamente humanas, incrementan la percepción de humanidad y la empatía, y reducen el apoyo a la justicia retributiva. Respecto a la severidad con el delincuente, se encontró una tendencia de los hombres a ser más severos. Estos hallazgos apoyan la teoría de la infrahumanización y evidencian la importancia del lenguaje emocional en la formación de juicios sociales en contextos judiciales.

This study examines how the type of emotion expressed by an offender influences the social perception of that individual and the severity of the punishment assigned. Using a 2x2 experimental design, the emotional content of a criminal narrative (primary vs. secondary emotions) was manipulated to assess its impact on dehumanization, empathy, retributive justice, and sentencing severity. The results show that the expression of secondary emotions—considered uniquely human increases perceived humanity and empathy, while reducing support for retributive justice. Regarding sentencing severity, a trend was observed in which male participants tended to be more punitive. These findings support the theory of infrahumanization and highlight the importance of emotional framing in shaping social judgments in judicial contexts.
