Análisis de datos para la gestión de residuos de las Islas Canarias. Estudio de modelos lineales de estimación

Abstract

El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo desarrollar un modelo capaz de predecir con fiabilidad la cantidad de residuos generados en la isla de Tenerife, utilizando Python como herramienta principal. Para ello, se integraron datos públicos procedentes del Instituto Canario de Estadística (ISTAC), Cabildo de Tenerife e Instituo Nacional de Estadística (INE), incluyendo variables sociodemográficas, turísticas y económicas. Tras un proceso de limpieza y unificación de los distintos datasets, se aplicaron técnicas de regresión lineal y árboles de regresión para modelar y poder predecir la cantidad de peso vertido. Mientras que los modelos de regresión lineal muestran un margen de mejora, los árboles de regresión ofrecen resultados más precisos y satisfactorios.

The aim of this work is to develop a reliable model capable of predicting the amount of waste generated on the island of Tenerife, using Python as the primary tool. To achieve this, public data from the Canary Islands Statistics Institute (ISTAC), the Tenerife Island Council, and the National Statistics Institute (INE) were integrated, including sociodemographic, tourism, and economic variables. After a process of cleaning and unifying the various datasets, linear regression and regression tree techniques were applied to model and predict the amount of waste generated. While the linear regression models show room for improvement, the regression trees provide more accurate and satisfactory results.
