Ecología política y percepción social sobre patrimonio cultural en Huatulco, México

Abstract

Huatulco es un centro turístico, rico en diversidad cultural, desarrollado por un programa federal para incentivar la economía regional, como consecuencia de dicho programa el paisaje natural y cultural se ha reconfigurado. El objetivo de esta investigación es analizar las percepciones de la población que se emplea en la economía turística sobre su patrimonio cultural desde el enfoque de la ecología política. Para obtener los datos se recurrió al método etnográfico. Como resultado se identificó que la población percibe las actividades turísticas como su patrimonio económico‐familiar, en menor frecuencia se mencionan las prácticas culturales ancestrales. Concluimos que existe una actitud positiva por parte de la población respecto a la valorización de las prácticas culturales en Huatulco por lo que se considera necesario trabajar en la divulgación de los valores patrimoniales y la gestión sustentable del mismo.

Huatulco is a tourist destination rich in cultural diversity, the product of a federal programme directed at developping the regional economy. One of the results of the aformentioned programme is the reconfiguration of the natural and cultural landscape of the coastline. The objective of this research is to analyse the perceptions of the population employed within the tourism economy with respect to their cultural heritage, from the perspective of political ecology. We used ethnographic methods of data collection. As a result, we identified generational differences in perception with young people perceiving tourism as their economic and family heritage while adults highlight ancestral cultural practices. We conclude that the popu‐ lation maintains a positive attitude regarding the appreciation of cultural practices in Huatulco. Therefore, we consider it necessary to work on the dissemination and sustainable management of heritage values.
