Retablos desaparecidos en el santuario del Cristo de Tacoronte

Abstract

En 1661, llegó a Tacoronte, un pueblo situado en el norte de la isla de Tenerife, una imagen que cambiaría la devoción cristiana de sus habitantes. Se trataba del Cristo de los Dolores, imagen aún hoy venerada por todos los canarios. Con motivo de esta devoción, la iglesia se enriquece con la donación y encargo de retablos e imágenes diversas, llegando a contar con más de seis retablos. En la actualidad, sólo restan tres debido a los cambios y la eliminación de obras de arte efectuados por el parroco D. Armando Montoliu en los años 60 del siglo xx.

Aun así los ecos de un pasado mejor, mucho más rico y suntuoso, siguen vivos en la mente de los tacoronteros que vivieron dicho esplendor. Con este artículo pretendemos el análisis pormenorizado de dichos retablos, estudiándolos a partir de los documentos encontrados que hablan de su realización, posibles restauraciones y las imágenes titulares que aún se conservan en las iglesias de Tacoronte.

In 1661, there came to Tacoronte, a people placed in the north of the island of Tenerife, an image that would change the Christian devotion of his inhabitants. He was the Christ of Dolores, image still today venerated by all the canaries. On the occasion of this devotion, the church prospers with the donation and order of altarpieces and diverse images, managing to rely on more than six altarpieces. At present, there are only three of these patrimonial goods, due to the changes and the elimination of works of art effected by the priest D. Armando Montoliu in the 60s of the 20th century. Even this way the echoes of the richest best, great and sumptuous past, they are still alive in the mind of the tacoronteros that they lived through the above mentioned brilliance. With this article we claim the analysis detailed of the above mentioned altarpieces, studying them from the opposing documents that they speak about his accomplishment, possible restorations and the titular images, which still remain in Tacoronte's churches.
