Los Exvotos en Tenerife. Vestigios materiales como expresión de lo prodigioso (I)

Abstract

Los exvotos nunca han dejado indiferente a quienes los contemplan. Son el legado material de ritos que se han llevado a cabo desde los orígenes de la Humanidad, logrando perpetuarse dentro del cristianismo y, en este sentido, adoptando formas concretas. Canarias, y en especial Tenerife, atesora una extraordinaria colección de estas piezas —muchas de ellas inéditas— que por sus peculiaridades merecen ser dadas a conocer como parte integrante del patrimonio mueble de esta isla. Por ello, con este artículo revelaremos, entre otras cuestiones, las principales expresiones votivas vinculadas a pinturas y figuras de metal que se localizan a lo largo de la geografía insular.

The ex-voto have never left indifferent to the spectator stands. They are the legacy material of rites that have been performed since the dawn of Humanity, achieving perpetuated within christianity and, in this respect, into specific shapes. Canary Islands, especially Tenerife, boasts an extraordinary collection of these pieces —many of them unpublished—, and they deserve for their uniqueness released as part of this island heritage. Therefore, with this article we’ll disclose, among other issues, the main expressions linked votive paintings and metal figures that are located along the island’s geography.
