Lola Massieu (1921-2007): un tapiz con varios hilos

Abstract

Lola Massieu es una de las artistas más importantes del siglo xx en Canarias. Su trayectoria como pintora y grabadora fue amplia y prolífica, y a ella debemos añadir la docencia que ejerció durante años. En este artículo intentamos, a modo de un tapiz imaginario, resaltar algunos de los elementos más importantes que dieron forma a su vida y a su pintura, así como algunas personas e instituciones que dieron a su vida sólidos puntos de apoyo y que, muchas veces debido a la escasez de espacio o de tiempo, no han sido detallados de manera suficiente. La pintura de Lola Massieu se enmarca dentro del informalismo abstracto, y su relación con los artistas de su tiempo es también esencial para calibrar su importancia en su justa medida.

Lola Massieu is one of the most important artists of the 20th century in the Canary Islands. His career as a painter and engraver was wide and prolific, and she must add teaching that practiced for years. At this proposal of polyhedral portrait, we try to highlight the people and institutions that gave solid points of support to her, and that many times due to the shortage of space or time, have not been sufficiently detailed. The painting of Lola Massieu is framed within the Informalism, and her relationship with the artists of her time is essential for knowing the importance and measure of it.
