Palabra e imagen: dos formas de actuación

Abstract

El estudio que a continuación presentamos tiene como objetivo el análisis de la representación femenina en la novela y en la pintura del siglo xix. Un análisis cronológico y evolutivo de la figura femenina pero, a la vez, un análisis feminista, puesto que buscamos una representación «contraestereotipada». La mayoría de imágenes nos muestran el clásico estereotipo del «ángel del hogar» que representa a la mujer en su casa cuidando de sus hijos y de su esposo, pero, en otras ocasiones, muy pocas, encontramos mujeres solas, leyendo, tocando el piano, frente al espejo o frente a la ventana, una nueva representación de la mujer burguesa, llena de aburrimiento. ¿Estas imágenes trataban de identificar la problemática de la desocupación femenina? Y si es así, ¿estas imágenes podrían suponer el inicio de la concienciación feminista en España?

The study presented below aims at analyzing women’s representation in the novel and the painting of the nineteenth century. It is a chronological and evolutionary analysis of the female figure but also, a feminist analysis as we seek a «counter stereotype» representation. Most pictures show the classic stereotype of the “domestic angel” which represents the woman at home taking care of her children and her husband, but on some other occasions we find single women, reading, playing the piano, in the mirror or in front of the window, a new representation of the bourgeois woman, full of boredom. Are these images trying to identify the female unemployment problem? And if so, could these images mark the beginning of feminist awareness in Spain?
